Installing chair rail

  Chair Rail
Two piece chair rail.
I install a lot of chair rail in Richmond, Virginia. The most popular kind is a two piece chair rail consisting of a four and half inch backer board or mullion and a more decorative three inch piece on top of it.

Chair railing is a architectural moulding that protects walls from bumping chairs and other furniture. You can install chair rail in virtually any room in your home. We have installed chair rail in bathrooms and kitchens. Chair rail can also be installed in bedrooms, nurseries and living rooms. Chair railing also looks fabulous in hallways, foyers and up along your stairs. Chair rail can also used to cap off wainscoting. Chair rail can be painted or stained. You can choose a one piece chair railing or a built up chair rail consisting of two or more pieces combined.

This is a 3 5/8 finger jointed, primed white crown molding installed over a bay window in a home near Mechanicsville, Virginia. I cope my inside corners when I install crown moulding, but you can just miter the corners over the Bay Window. Having some kind of angle finder comes in handy!

This is the smaller of the crown moldings. It's 2 5/8 inch crown moulding, the homeowner had two rooms of it already installed in his home so he wanted to go with it in every other room. I tried to persuade him otherwise (to go with the next size moulding) but he said that's what he wanted.
I purchased 208 linear feet of the molding. The homeowner said that he had measured about 190 linear feet of crown molding to be installed but I still found myself running out of molding at the end of the day, always buy extra! Especially when you end up having to go to Lowes to buy three 12 ft pieces for almost $60.00 dollars, just not right!
Even though it was smaller the crown molding still looked great.

How much is a coffered ceiling?

Coffered ceilings.

I get lots of traffic to my website for the search term "coffered ceilings" (you can see pictures of the finished coffered ceiling in the video and another coffered ceiling on my website here Coffered Ceilings ). I have given estimates for coffered ceilings and I also get phone calls and emails about the cost of a coffered ceiling and people are sometimes surprised by the total estimate.

coffered ceiling how to

The coffered ceiling above had 25 individual coffers, that's a lot of molding and millwork and a whole lot of  work cutting miters and coping crown molding.
I've done a a lot of research on where to get coffered ceiling kits and I have found that my prices are much better than the shipped coffered ceiling kits and you still have to install the coffered ceiling kit or hire someone to do it. If you happen to be moving into a new house that is currently being built you would probably get an okay deal on a coffered ceiling, something simple, but then again the home builder is already selling you a house for some ridiculous price!
If you have any questions about my coffered ceilings please don't hesitate to call me!
